UL - Underwriters Laboratories

Underwriters Laboratories is one of the world’s premier safety testing and certification sources. Many applications require UL approval for insurance and/or other compliance purposes. There are several areas of interest, but the most applicable is UL 508, the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment. For more information on UL, check their web site at www.ul.com.

MadisonSensor offers many sensors with UL 508 approval via file E54633. Those product approvals are to a specific design. Some modifications to an approved design may cause the approval to be invalid. Should that be a critical issue for you, contact us to determine what course of action would be best.

Explosion-Proof: UL Hazardous Location

NOTE: Individual Madison product explosion-proof approvals vary. Consult MadisonSensor for current product listings.

Certain Madison product models have been tested and approved by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for use in hazardous locations. These liquid level switch products listed below are approved as a recognized component for hazardous locations for Class I, Groups A, B, C and D; Class II, Groups E, F and G; and Class III. They have been investigated by UL as electrical equipment for use in and relating to Class I, II and III, Division 1 and 2 hazardous (classified) locations. Canadian Standards Association

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) tests products for compliance to national and international standards and issues certification marks for qualified products. Certification marks tell potential users that a product has been evaluated by a formal process involving examination, testing and follow-up inspection, and that it complies with applicable standards for safety and performance. CSA is recognized throughout Canada as the premier certification organization for electrical products. For more information on CSA, visit their web site at www.csagroup.org.

As with UL approval, CSA certification is design-specific. Therefore, modifications to a certified design may cause the certification to be invalid. Please confer with Madison Company if this certification is crucial for your application.

Explosion-Proof: CSA Hazardous Locations

Certain Madison product models have been tested and approved by CSA International for use in hazardous locations. The liquid level switch product is normally approved as a Class 2258 02 Process Control Equipment for hazardous locations classified as Class A, B, C and D; Class II, Groups E, F and G; Class III. CE

The 15 member nations of the European Union (EU) have created a set of product-specific regulations with which those companies doing business in those nations must comply. The EU’s "New Approach Directives" constitute its unified set of health and safety regulations, symbolized by the CE mark. The mark is required for a broad range of products, including machinery, medical devices and electrical/electronic products. Madison Company self-certifies many of its liquid level float switches to CE specifications EN60730-1 and EN60730-2, and Low Voltage Directive (72/73/EEC).  View the individual sensor or float switch product pages for specific approvals.

NSF International

NSF International sets standards for products and systems related to public health, safety and the environment with focus on the essential elements of water, food environment and air. The NSF Certification programs are accepted and frequently mandated by public health regulators throughout the United States, as well as internationally. Madison company offers over 30 NSF approved sensors which meet NSF/ANSI Standard 169 - Special Purpose Food Equipment and Devices, and over 20 which meet NSF/ANSI Standard 372 Drinking Water System Components – Lead Content.
